CHAPTER 12

The next morning at breakfast, everyone was in a glum mood even though Linc had fried some sausage links, eggs, and made toast. No one spoke as Holly, Linc, and Brigid stayed lost in their own thoughts, trying to piece things together. Like how in the world any of this had happened and what they could do about it? But none of them were feeling very hopeful that there was anything they could do about the situation.

“I had an idea,” Holly began after taking a few sips of juice and eating her toast. “It’s a long shot, but I know someone I think might be able to help. She’s far more into technology than I am. I wanted to check with you two first to make sure you didn’t mind me telling someone what’s going on. I thought maybe you’d want to keep it hush-hush or something.”

Brigid looked over at Linc, who shrugged. She turned back to Holly and said, “We don’t mind. If you think someone can help, feel free to reach out to them. I think in this situation we can use all the help we can get. Who do you have in mind?” she asked as she took a bite of a sausage link and listened to Holly.

“Her name is Vega. She’s really great with computers and even built her own. She’s known in school as being the go-to person if you’re having tech problems. She has a little business replacing cell phone screens and has written her own programs and apps. She’s like a computer genius. I thought if we could figure out how this happened, it might help us find out who did it.”

“I hope she can help,” Brigid nodded. “Especially since what Sheriff Davis said is right. I really doubt that there are a lot of local people who could help us with this sort of thing. We almost need someone capable of taking down a website so we can know what actually happened.”

Brigid had been thinking about that very fact during most of the night. Tossing and turning in bed, she’d wondered how they were going to find out who had done it. As far as she knew, there was no way to trace it.

“I’ll see if I can get ahold of her after I finish breakfast. She’s a busy girl, so it might take some time,” Holly explained.

“If you can work with her and then we work with the sheriff, maybe we can end up combining our information and find out who did it,” Linc suggested. “There’s no reason why we can’t try a couple of different approaches and see what we come up with.”

“Okay, I’ll see what I can do,” Holly said happily. Brigid knew she enjoyed helping out when she could. If anything, Holly liked solving mysteries as much as Brigid did.

“I’ll try to find the information for that web developer,” Linc said. “I know I have it somewhere on my computer.”

“You do that and try to think if there’s anyone else,” Brigid said.
